What Are You Listening To?

Psalm 143:8

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.”~ Psalm 143:8

In the Old Testament, hearing often means more than simply perceiving sound. It carries the idea of heeding—listening attentively with the intention to respond in obedience. To hear is to pay close attention and to align ourselves (or being conformed) with what's being said. This brings deeper meaning to this verse. The psalmist is asking us to begin each day by paying close attention to God’s steadfast love, so that we can be shaped and molded by His unwavering, immovable love. Why? Because God’s love does not change. We can trust Him to love us no matter what. He is trustworthy—"...for in You I trust."

Reflection

What are you tempted to listen to first thing in the morning?

What voices tend to drown out His conforming and trustworthy love?

How does knowing that his love is immovable and unwavering change how you approach today?

Prayer

Lord, let us begin each day by hearing Your steadfast love. Strengthen our trust in You, and train our hearts to look to You first—before we look at circumstances, responsibilities, or fears.
