God Cares About You
“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?”
—Psalm 8:3–4
We know better than to compare ourselves to other people. It’s a trap—one designed to make us miserable. Studies even show that after just a few minutes of flipping through a fashion magazine, many women feel more depressed, guilty, and ashamed. Don’t do it. It isn’t worth it.
But when was the last time you compared yourself to God’s creation?
Do this.
This is worth it.
When I stand beneath the night sky and consider God’s handiwork, I am filled with awe. God feels so big—and I feel so small. Like David (though far less eloquently), I find myself wondering, Why would You even bother with us Lord? Compared to the vastness of Your creation, we seem so insignificant—like grasshoppers (Isaiah 40:22).
And yet, Scripture gives us the answer.
God is mindful of us because He cares for us.
God’s love is not abstract or distant; it is expressed in His attentive care. Jesus reminds us that our heavenly Father knows and provides for our every need (Matthew 6:26). And Peter urges us to cast all our anxieties on the Lord—because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
The God who set the stars in place bends His attention toward His people. That truth is meant to steady our hearts—and invite our trust.
Reflection
If you have a few unhurried minutes, I invite you to watch the video I included. It begins on earth and then steadily zooms outward—far beyond our world, beyond our galaxy, to the furthest reaches of the universe we can currently observe.
Watch it slowly.
Let the vastness sink in.
And remember: the God who made all of this is mindful of you.
